Oldest house in Newton Inspected
19 Feb, 2014Inspected this home for a client who is going to do a full restoration. Features worthy of preservation were noted and cataloged so they would not be harmed during the renovation. Features included several ancient additions, a cobblers shop and a tavern. Many of the fire places were of the Lord Rumford design and the kitchen had a very large fireplace with a beehive bake oven. Some of the structure had hand hewn beams, trunnels (pegs), and were mortised and tennoned. A stable underneath had a horse drawn carriage and many artifacts from the 17th and 18th century. It was amazing that so much had survived from the days when the area was a town and now is a city!
